Amanda Washington, 41, of Darby, was charged with hindering prosecution about a week after her son, 22-year-old Saddiq Washington, was charged with first and third-degree murder, among other offenses, in the shooting death of King Hua, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

Investigators say she was driving a Chevrolet Equinox that passed Hua's Toyota Camry when her son opened fire on State Road in Springfield around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 29.

Amanda Washington, who waived her Miranda rights, allegedly told detectives that she passed Hua's car on the shoulder that morning because it was moving slowly and she was running late for work.

She claimed that when she got in front of Hua's car, she heard shots and realized that her son was shooting out of the passenger side of the vehicle, authorities said.

Washington asked her son what he was doing, to which he responded “Go. Go. Go. Go Mom," the DA's office said.

As she was driving to work, her son said to her, "Mom, I hope I didn't kill anybody," authorities said.

She apparently added that she knew her son had a license to carry a 9mm pistol and that he owned it, but that she did not know that he had the gun on him at the time of the shooting until he fired it out of the vehicle.

Investigators used nearby surveillance video and identified the fleeing vehicle's license plate number to track down the pair, court records show. They were taken into custody by Darby police on Thursday, June 30.

Amanda Washington was remanded to the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, records show.
